Santa, baby

Santa, baby… slip my boyfriend under the tree for me.
Been an awful good boy.
Santa, baby… so hurry down the chimney tonight.

Ugh. Man Flu hath struck the Haus of Dagger. Hardly surprising, since I’ve been dodging every sodding person at work for about three weeks, because they’ve all been coughing, spluttering, and sneezing. I guess it was only a matter of time before I succumbed. At least I had fair warning, and I’ve stocked up on throat sweets, hot lemon flu drinks, and all the stuff that keeps us on our feet when we’re suffering.

Oh shut up; I’m in coughing, raw-throated misery :p

Anyway, In the absence of any Monday Memes for the rest of the year, Berry’s written her Christmas list for 2013, and it looks as though she’s inadvertently created a Thursday Meme instead ;-)

Soooo…

Dear Santa,

Y’know, for a big, jolly guy your knee isn’t half bony. Oh… um… that’s not your knee? *shifts over a bit* Uh… sorry about that. Where were we? Oh, yes. I’ve been a really good boy this year, so I would like:

Free tier for 2014 – Well, might as well get the impossible out of the way first, right? 2013 was the year when I finally shifted gears to a full sim’s tier, and with 20% VAT added by default because I’m in the UK, it’s slightly painful. I wouldn’t swap it for anything – I love having the space and the prims – but ouch.

Good health and contentment for those that I love – Goes without saying. *coughs until his eyes water for the enth time today* That includes me, big guy.

A different camera than the one Berry wants :p – Ha! Loved Berry’s list, but I’m a classicist when it comes to shutterbugging. This year I was drooling over a mint condition boxed Leica M6 on eBay that eventually went for a positively eye-watering £5k or so. I doubt I’d get one for under about £2k, but hey; it’s my dream camera.

*shifts a bit more on Santa’s “knee”*

Um, that’s about it. I don’t really want or need anything this year. Sure, there are small things I’d like (certain movies on DVD, trinkets, bits of decor for my house, etc) but… in all honesty I’m quite content. I have book and ebooks coming out of my ears (enough to last me at least a year), all the music I could want, and – most importantly – I have Daros in my life.

So, I guess… have some fashiony stuff?

This is a really old look (Flickr tells me I put this look together on November 10th 2012) so it’s pre-mesh. I would have done something new, but we’re back to that lurgy again and the fact that I’m amazed I’ve managed to write anything lucid. Attempting fashion might well result in a disaster that I wouldn’t want put out there for posterity! So, I hunted through my outfits folder for something wintry and came up with this.

Since it’s such an old look, many of the pieces may no longer be available (for example: I know the boots aren’t) so – if there’s no inworld store, try Marketplace before you give up.

Closing with this shot, because it just framed nicely:

Oh, and if you run WordPress on your site, be warned when you take the upgrade that just came out: there’s a new redesign. My poor cold-addled eyes weren’t prepared for the in-yer-face-ness of this:

(Also, it may just be my connection to my website, but my previews aren’t working, so forgive any typos that you catch before I get the chance to edit.)

  1. I LOVE that this is turning into a meme and that camera looks ancient, lol! I bet it be fun to play with. Also, you’re not kidding about that wordpress update, holy massive changes batman!

    1. Yeah, the last few WP upgrades have been more under-the-hood kind of things, but this one actually made me start away from the screen and make a pained “WTF is THAT?!” sound. I was just startled!

  2. Thank you for sharing the WordPress update thingie as I had no idea that was going to happen -.-

I used to work with Leica ‘analog’ cameras back in highschool and still love the err ancient ways, of processing fotos..darkroom, fumes, mmm
    Great read! thoroughly enjoyed :)

    1. Apple has a lot to answer for. The whole interwebs is getting obsessed with this ‘clean lines’ design aesthetic. I can’t help but think it looks… dumbed-down, as if we’re not capable of handling complexity or of processing anything more than the simplest of visual content.

As to the Leica, I know. I’m asthmatic, so the developing fumes alone would probably kill me! XD I just love those damn things so much; the physical feel of them, the process of winding on, the risk of not getting that shot but not finding out until the reel is developed. I recall my first Polaroid camera (and the pretentious, ostentatious – and completely unnecessary! – waving around of each image as it dried, not to mention the cost of the cartridges!) and the whole thrill of waiting and watching as your image developed. All of that is missing from the “point, click, check, discard/keep” digital cameras of today.

      Meh, I sound old :p
